Promoting the arts within the community, the Starkville Area Arts Council and Cotton District Arts Festival are proud to share the Student Art Competition and Exhibition with you. Developing and recognizing young artists in the community while making art accessible to young minds is the hallmark of this competition. Artistic expression is fundamental to a child’s development, and the Student Art competition strives to encourage and involve students in the arts by giving them an opportunity to present their own original works for display and honors.
Submissions may be either 2-dimensional fine art or photography, and all entries in the competition are shown in a public reception held the week of the festival. Artwork is judged based on creativity, originality, quality of composition and design, skill in the use of media, and the overall visual effect of the project. Prizes are given in the following age categories, 4th-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, 9th-11th grade, and 12th grade; and award winning pieces are put on display for all to see on the day of the festival. All young artists living in Oktibehha County are encouraged to enter.
