presented by Starkville Area Arts Council

2023 Poster Reveal

Picture
Presented by the Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) and the Cotton District Arts Festival (CDAF) Committee, we are excited to bring this historic festival (safely) back to the Cotton District this fall with over 115 artisans, 20 local food vendors and food trucks, local musicians, fun arts activities for all ages, and more!

The CDAF Committee is excited to reveal the Official #CDAF2023 poster, chosen over a dozen student submissions to our annual contest in Mississippi State University graphic design classes taught by Suzanne Powney. Congratulations to the 2023 Cotton District Arts Festival poster competition winning artist, Emma Carr! Emma is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a concentration in Graphic Design. She hails from Birmingham, Alabama   bold typography and colorful elements are an integral components of her artistic style.  After graduating, she plans to move to Birmingham, AL and further her business while continuing to explore new opportunities
The festival is set for September 23, 2023. Although #CDAF2023 will continue rain or shine, inclement weather (such as severe lightning, flooding, high winds and tornados, etc) may affect our ability to host a festival. As always, follow CDAF and SAAC on social media for more up-to-date notices.

About The Artist

Picture

Typically, my design process commences with thorough research, followed by sketching and experimentation. I find that this approach allows me to explore various ideas and concepts. I usually combine multiple computer programs so I can effectively bring my creative vision to life and achieve the intended design goal. In my poster design, my goal was to capture the spirit of a lively festival and the vibrant city of Starkville, MS. After researching past designs and other festival posters, I developed a concept that combines bold lettering with interactive illustrations. I wanted to ensure that the design could be easily read from a distance, while also enticing viewers to approach closer and appreciate the intricate details that are incorporated Finally, the design incorporates bright colors,
kid-friendly graphics, and a cheerful vibe.
