2013 Cotton District Arts Festival Poster
Jamie Runnells is the winning artist of the 2013 Cotton District Arts Festival Poster. Her design was one of 21 submissions and chosen by a jury this fall.
Originally from Colorado, Jamie Runnells earned a Masters of Design from Edinburgh College of Art in Edinburgh, Scotland. She earned a Bachelors of Art in Fine Art at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia. She was the Art Director for two small fine art publications in Iowa before moving to Mississippi in 2002 and becoming a Professor of Graphic Design at MSU.
Runnells is a practicing designer whose work has been honored with numerous national design awards. Most notably, her work has appeared in PRINT Magazine's Regional Design Annual, and was awarded with a National Gold ADDY. Runnells also creates artist's books which have been exhibited at many national juried exhibitions.
Runnells 3D work in book arts strongly informs her 2D/print work. Her designs often have an unexpected dimensional element. And her love of painting and the handmade influence her design work as well. Her design for the 2013 Cotton District Arts Festival uses a brush and paint to "create" (or highlight) the components of the festival. The flowers and colors used represent the blooms of spring--when the festival is held.
Posters are 17" X 24" and can be purchased for $10 at the Starkville Area Arts Council office located at 101 Lafayette St. - Suite 18, in downtown Starkville. If you are a festival lover who can't make it this year, just fill out the Mail Order Form, and we will send you one!
